How to care for your foot jewelry

Sand, sea and sunscreen are part of a summer with your anklets and toe rings. This guide explains what your jewelry is made of and how a few simple habits keep every piece bright for years.

Know your materials

Every Feetz & Co. piece starts with a stainless steel base. Stainless steel is strong, it does not rust and it is gentle on the skin, which makes it the right foundation for jewelry you wear on your feet every day. On top of that base we add a finish in 18k gold or in silver.

18k gold plated pieces

A layer of 18k gold is bonded to the steel, which gives our gold anklets, toe rings and barefoot sandals their warm glow. The plating is made for everyday wear. What dulls it over time is not water but friction and chemicals, such as perfume, body oils, sunscreen and harsh cleaners. Keep those away from your pieces and the colour stays rich for much longer.

Silver plated pieces

Our silver pieces have a bright silver finish over the same stainless steel base. They are cool, clean and easy to stack with gold. Silver finishes show fingerprints and residue a little sooner, so a quick wipe with a soft cloth after wearing keeps them looking their best.

Everyday care basics

Foot jewelry lives a different life than a ring or a necklace. It meets sand, sea, pool water, sunscreen and the inside of your shoes. A few small habits make a big difference.

Put your jewelry on last

Apply sunscreen, lotion, self tanner and perfume first and let them dry before you put your anklet or toe rings on. These products leave a film on the surface that slowly takes away the shine.

Take it off for heavy work

Remove your pieces for cleaning with household products, for gardening and for intense workouts. Chemicals and constant rubbing are the two things plated jewelry likes least.

Rinse after the sea and the pool

Our jewelry is water resistant, so you can swim, shower and walk on the beach with it. Salt and chlorine do leave residue behind, so rinse your pieces with fresh water afterwards and pat them dry with a soft towel.

How to clean your jewelry at home

You do not need special products to keep your pieces bright. These three methods are safe for both our gold and our silver finishes.

01

Fresh water and a soft cloth

For everyday care, rinse your piece under lukewarm water and dry it with a soft, lint free cloth. Do this after a day at the beach or whenever it feels sticky from sunscreen.

02

Mild soap and lukewarm water

For a deeper clean, add a drop of mild, unscented soap to a bowl of lukewarm water. Let your piece soak for a few minutes, gently move it around and use a very soft brush for chains and small details. Rinse well and dry completely.

03

Dry before you store

Always let your jewelry dry fully before you put it away. Moisture trapped in a chain or a closed pouch is what causes dull spots over time.

What to avoid

Do not use toothpaste, baking soda, vinegar, bleach or silver dips. Polishing cloths with chemicals and ultrasonic cleaners are also too harsh for plated jewelry. They can scratch the surface or wear the finish away.

Storing your jewelry

Store each piece in its own pouch or in a compartment of your jewelry box. This keeps fine chains from tangling and stops pieces from scratching each other. Keep them in a dry place away from direct sunlight, so not in the bathroom.

Travelling with your stack

Put each anklet in a separate pouch and close the clasp before you pack it. A closed clasp is the easiest way to keep fine chains from knotting in your bag.
